Routine dentistry
Routine dental care is an essential part of every equine’s healthcare plan. We recommend a dental examination every 6–12 months, depending on age, workload, and individual dental needs.
Dental problems can cause pain, weight loss, poor digestion, colic, choke, behavioural changes, poor performance and, ultimately, even lameness – yet horses are experts at hiding discomfort.
Regular check-ups allow us to detect problems early, often before obvious signs appear. By the time an equine shows issues such as dropping food, difficulty chewing, headshaking, or resisting the bit, dental disease may already be advanced.
Our dental services
We are experienced in all aspects of routine equine dentistry, including power floating and wolf tooth removal. Every routine dental appointment includes a thorough oral examination using appropriate lighting and dental equipment.
We usually recommend light sedation to ensure a calm, safe, and stress-free experience for your equine. This allows for a detailed assessment and accurate treatment. Most procedures can be performed at your yard, minimising disruption for both animal and owner.
When to Book
Even if your horse is not showing any signs of dental issues, regular checks are vital to prevent problems developing silently.
If you are unsure when your horse last had a dental examination, or you have noticed any changes in their eating or behaviour, get in touch to arrange a visit – we will be happy to help keep their mouth comfortable and healthy.
