Maria graduated from the University of Murcia (Spain) in 1999 and began her career in equine ambulatory practice before joining the university’s Veterinary Teaching Hospital in 2001. Over the following years, she cultivated strong clinical interests in lameness evaluation, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, and surgery. She later enhanced her orthopaedic expertise by completing an RCVS-accredited postgraduate certificate in Equine Surgery (Orthopaedics) in 2012.

Between 2000 and 2020, Maria served on the clinical faculty at the University of Murcia, playing a key role in undergraduate clinical teaching and performing a wide range of soft-tissue and orthopaedic surgeries. Her commitment to research, professional development and clinical excellence led to her becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in 2017, followed by an additional certificate in Equine Medicine in 2019 awarded by the Spanish General Council of Veterinary Colleges.

Since 2020, Maria has acted as a consultant to the equine veterinary teaching hospitals of the Universities of León (Spain) and Toulouse (France).
